Status updates on our progress
Here's our current status, relative to the targets outlined in the Phased Design Plan, which the sub-committee approved and reported back to the DITA TC in February, 2007.
Topic designs
- We have complete draft designs, working schemas, and test sample content for the following topic types:
Metadata support
Scott Hudson is working on a draft design, schemas, and working samples for IEEE LOM metadata in the topic prologs of the five learning types, as specializations of the DITA data element. See IMS LOM design.
Learning Map Domain
Learning Map Domain provides a first draft design. We need to discuss:
- Whether to allow nesting of learning objects
- How to handle relationship tables
Assessment interactions
- We have agreed to develop a basic set of assessment interactions as a native DITA domain specialization, based on Reuben Tozman's six basic interaction types.
- We may also support use of QTI interactions as a DITA foreign domain specialization, based on the following technical dependencies:
- QTI must provide both DTD and XSD implementations.
- QTI must provide processing support to SCORM.
- QTI must provide processing support for any additional delivery targets, such as PDF or HTML.
Next steps
Turn the wiki pages with the topic designs into DITA topics, and publish a draft specification for the 5 topic types, for review and approval by the sub-committee. John Hunt to coordinate this. Target completion: September 6.
Complete a draft DITA specialization design for IEEE LOM, including working schemas and sample content. Scott Hudson to lead this. Target complete: September 27.
Resolve map domain issues and turn the wiki pages on the Learning Map domain into DITA topics, and publish a draft specification for the learning map domain, for review and approval by the sub-committee. John Hunt to lead this. Target completion: September 27.
Develop a draft spec, including working schemas and sample content, for the DITA interactions domain, for review and approval by the sub-committee. John Hunt, John Accardi, Reuben Tozman to lead this. Target completion: September 27.
Goal: By end of September, we have resolved issues and approved designs for the 5 topic types, the map domain, the native assessment interactions, and the metadata model, including working schemas and basic sample content.
October - December - We tackle processing, with primary target of SCORM and secondary target PDF, according to our Phased Design Plan.
Today's Topics:
- We have these topics to address in September.
- status of the draft spec for the 5 topic types - John H.
- update and working discussion on the interactions domain - Reuben and John H.
- update on metadata coverage and discussion about specifying it in maps and topics - Scott
- the map domain - revisit, review, and discuss any remaining issues
