2011-02-14 Plugfest event: discussion on change tracking and update on work of this SC

PHASE 3: REFINE APPROACHES

2011-02 (Feb) to 2011-03 (Mar) (some deliberate overlap with Phase 2)

I believe that we now (2011-02-02) have a good degree of consensus regarding the requirements. This was evident from our initial conference call, and subsequent email discussions. We are at the stage now of refining these rather than making major changes. No one on the email list has expressed an opinion that major changes are needed. We also have quite an extensive list of use cases, each of which provides a detailed description of a specific change that needs to be represented. Therefore I would hope that there is sufficient information for members of the group to be able to decide if he/she would like to propose new approaches.

Develop/discuss approaches including:

1. Enhance and develop existing change tracking mechanism (we have no detailed proposal for this - is there anyone who believes this is a good approach and would like to develop a method for how this could be done? Without this it is difficult to consider this in detail)

2. DeltaXML proposal (this includes a number of worked example use cases but is not in the format of a standard). I believe there is sufficient detail in this proposal for consideration by the SC - please say if you disagree with this.

3. Any other proposals welcome - for consideration a member of the SC needs to submit a paper with sufficient technical detail for it to be considered by the group.

PHASE 4: DEVELOP PROPOSAL FOR STANDARD

2011-04 (April) SC to consider all proposed approaches and decide whether any of the approaches shows enough potential to warrant developing a first draft for a standard in this area. If one is selected, move on as below, otherwise re-plan roadmap.

2011-05 (May) First draft of proposal in format of a standards document

2011-05 (May) to 2011-07 (July) Develop and discuss proposal

PHASE 5: SUBMIT PROPOSAL TO TC

2011-07-end (July) If consensus on proposal: Submit proposal to TC for inclusion in CSD01 (CSD01 date is end Sept, then this is latest time for inclusion).
