ODF New Proposal Template
Proposal short name:
Change Proposal for ODF 1.2 Metadata - Adaption of RDF mapping to relative URLs
The existing ODF 1.2 RDF feature already uses a manifest.rdf file in the package for every document to express ODF elements by IRIs to be usable in an RDF graph. Previously any arbitrary IRI could be used, in general URNs had been generated to express an ODF element, this proposal is to use relative URLs instead. From the feedback of the W3C Semantic Web interest group the usage of URN can be enhanced by avoiding alias and the usage of relative URLs. Every resource in a web should be accessible by URLs and not described by URNs due to the loss of reach, the lack of possibility creating a web. To avoid duplicate mapping mechanisms, relative URLs should therefore explicitly be used in the future to refer to an ODF resource within the package. By OWL it is still possible to add additional URN to the resource, therefore there is no loss of functionality by this change.
Keeping the current approach would create IRI alias in the RDF graphs, which should be avoided. http://www.w3.org/TR/webarch/#avoid-uri-aliases
Requested changes to the ODF Standard
Text changes/additions (please state section numbers):
Adaption of section "3.2.2. Manifest.rdf": "2) 1.It associates OpenDocument elements of the document to IRIs in the metadata files using relative URLs. The value of any rdf:about attribute referring to a resource within the package shall be the relative URL to the resource." Minor Fixes: * Exchanging the new metadata OWL grammar prefix "doc" with "pkg" for mnemonic reasons. * Moving RDF class odf:File to package layer (renamed to pkg:File) * As only relative URLs should be used to refer to inner package resources within RDF/XML, the OWL properties 'pkg:idref', 'pkg:path' and 'pkg:hasPart' (the pkg:hasPart to express the relationship of an xml file and xml element with ID) become redundant. Please find the changes within the previous approved ODF 1.2 metadata change request with changetracking enabled: http://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/office-metadata/download.php/30347/08-12-10-ODF-Metadata-Change-Request.odt
No Relax NG schema changes.
No mandatory features or behaviors to ODF documents or applications had been added.
No compatibility problems as it is an adaption of a new ODF 1.2 feature.
No Accessibility impact
