New Chart Option on Hidden Cells
Proposal owner: Kohei Yoshida, Ingrid Halama
Proposal short name: Additional chart option on handling of hidden cells in a spreadsheet document.
Charts can visualize data from cell ranges in a spreadsheet. While in a spreadsheet the user can hide rows or columns, it is unclear whether or not data from hidden cells should be displayed within the chart. Some users want data in hidden cells to be displayed while others prefer them not being displayed. To solve this conflict, the proposed change will make this behavior configurable.
Supporting this is also important for interoperability with Excel.
No alternatives are considered for this feature.
Requested changes to the ODF Standard
Text changes/additions Section 16.16 <chart:chart-properties> (change)
The <style:chart-properties> element may have the following attributes: ... chart:include-hidden-cells 18.x, ...
Text changes/additions Section 18.x chart:include-hidden-cells (new section)
The chart:include-hidden-cells attribute specifies whether or not data points in hidden cells are plotted in a chart.
This attribute can be used within styles that are applied to a <chart:plot-area> element.
<define name="style-chart-properties-attlist" combine="interleave"> <optional> <attribute name="chart:include-hidden-cells" a:defaultValue="true"> <ref name="boolean"/> </attribute> </optional> </define>
If an application doesn't support the chart:include-hidden-cells attribute, it should plot data from hidden cells in all cases.
This addition will not cause a backward compatibility issue since it is a new attribute.
There is no impact on accessibility.
