ODF Profiles
Until now, ODF doesn't have any profiles defined, only a non-normative appendix on features that are commonly used in different types of applications.
Proposal
Discussions on the ODF TC mailing list "raising the floor"
Create at least a profile for
- text
- spreadsheet
- presentation
Each profile should consist of selected modules, and a module would more or less align with a chapter of the ODF spec.
So we would end up with
- package module
- metadata module
- table module
- etc...
And every module/profile could have several levels, a good start would be creating a "basic" level (a minimal set of useful features) and a full "level" (everything and the kitchen sink). Probably it helps to check what "most" implementations are supporting today, and nail down this common set.
Putting it all together could lead to this:
- Basic Text Profile contains:
- Package module, Basic level:
- using zip package required
- mimetype stream required
- support for encryption not required
- preview image not mandatory
- ...
- Metadata module, Basic level
- must be able to understand and update dc:creator, ...
- support document statistics not required
- Package module, Basic level:
