we propose to capture a lossless mapping between [XLIFF core + gls] and TBX basic (one of two officially published TBX dialects) as an Appendix in the XLIFF Version 2.1 It remains to be seen if this Appendix be normative or informative. The mapping has been elaborated in the slides attached to the linked email.

4.1. ITS Mapping

We've had a direct liaison with the Multilingual Web WG at W3C when the ITS 2.0 was in making. The WG and subsequently the ITS IG have developed this ITS 2.0 <-> XLIFF 2.0 mapping: http://www.w3.org/International/its/wiki/XLIFF_2.0_Mapping

It is now time for the XLIFF TC to take over and make ITS 2.0 an integral part of XLIFF 2.x mechanisms.

I (dF, as the owner of this feature) commit to working with other people intersted in this complex and important feature inside and outside the TC to make it part of the XLIFF 2.1 release.

There alerady are reference implementations for this based on extensions rather than mdoules, notably ENLASO and Moravia.

This has been discussed at the 5th Symposium Dublin, Felix Sasaki showed and the audience including TC members how machine readable artifacts can be provided by the TC to provide standardized checks for a bigger portion of the spec than the current XML 1.0 schema. Considered techniques include Relax NG, Schematron and NVDL.

I as the listed owner commit to manage the efforts of other TC members to elaborate this one. TC members committed to this work so far include: Felix Sasaki, Soroush Saadatfar, and (persistent non-voting member) Jirka Kosek
